Are you tired of covering up symptoms? You are not alone! For many people suffering from chronic pain, illness, or injuries it can be exhausting going from doctor to doctor and only receiving prescription medication and/or surgical intervention. We have years of experience helping people just like you combine modern medicine with East Asian Medicine in Kingston WA to help patients experience deeper levels of healing.

The problem is that conventional medicine doesn’t work well for most chronic illnesses, where a disease process cannot be identified or eliminated with drugs or procedures. Sometimes it offers little more than symptom management using drugs most people aren’t comfortable taking regularly because the long-term effects are harmful or unknown.

Doctors give little, if any, guidance on natural ways like diet and lifestyle changes to stimulate your body to heal itself. Why should we expect that of them? That’s not what they were trained to do!

That’s Where Acupuncture & East Asian Medicine Can Help

It’s natural – All healing is done by the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Even the greatest surgeon can’t heal the smallest cut. Only the body can do that.

It works with your body instead of against it – Modern medicine is impressive for critical care, but your body’s self-healing abilities are even more so. Most modern drugs work by masking symptoms instead of helping to bring your self-healing abilities into play. Often these symptoms (such as fever, inflammation, etc.) are actually your body’s attempt to heal itself. Blocking these symptoms can give temporary relief but at the cost of true healing.

Side effects are minimal or non-existent –Experts agree, all drugs have side effects. Eli Lilly, Founder of the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company, once said, “A drug without side effects is no drug at all.” Also, according to Dr. Janet Woodcock, Director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, “All drugs have side effects, and even the safest approved drugs have side effects.

Unfortunately the newest drugs can often be the most dangerous, as their side effects are still being discovered. “51% of approved drugs have adverse side effects not detected prior to approval.” (Source: Clinical Pharmacology: Basic Principles in Therapeutics, 3rd edition).

Instead of the unbalancing effects of drugs, acupuncture and East Asian Medicine work with the body’s systems to bring them back into balance. This means that side effects are minimal or non-existent.

It’s safe – The methods we use in acupuncture and East Asian Medicine are tried & true – for at least the past 3500 years! Acupuncturists in the United States, very much like medical doctors, undergo a rigorous 4 year medical training followed by clinical residencies & post-graduate training.

In fact, the average acupuncturist only spends about $50 a month on malpractice insurance, while the average doctor (general practitioner, family practitioner and internist) spends about $1000 per month. The risks are clearly greater with pharmaceutical intervention & surgical procedures.

It is outstanding for chronic conditions – Modern medicine is exceptional at acute conditions – health problems needing immediate attention, such as infections, broken bones, trauma, and anything requiring surgery. It’s not as good at chronic conditions – health conditions that just don’t go away on their own. These persistent conditions are where Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine are especially effective.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-fine needles into the body at specific points known to restore the flow of Qi (pronounced ‘chee’). After the needles are placed, the patient will lay still for 20 to 30 minutes. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a wide variety of common health problems.

What is Cupping & Gua Sha?

Cupping is the therapeutic application of small glass cups that create a vacuum seal over specific areas of the body, mainly the back. It is used to promote the free flow of Qi and Blood in the channels which helps relieve pain in the low back, shoulders, legs and abdomen. It is often used in patients who have chronic pain, asthma, allergies and/or cough.

Generally, the cup stays in place for 8-12 minutes. The skin will become congested with blood causing a temporary violet color. Upon withdrawal of the cup, blood flow and skin color return to normal.

Gua sha works similar to cupping in that it restores the normal flow of circulation to target tissues & organs. The difference is that gua sha uses a small rounded edge tool in a unidirectional press-stroking motion along the skin surface. Both techniques work well to reduce inflammation, restore normal organ functioning, and regulate the immune system.

Why Are Diet & Lifestyle Important?

What we eat has a direct impact on our health. If we are eating foods that cause inflammation or that our body can’t easily digest they can contribute to more inflammation and pain. That’s why we evaluate diet and help construct a plan that will provide you with the nutrients your body needs to heal.

Sleep quality and stress levels also have a significant impact on our health and well-being. We are experts at helping restore sleep and manage stress so that acupuncture treatments have an even deeper impact on helping the body heal itself.
