Acute bronchitis is a lower respiratory tract infection that causes reversible inflammation of the bronchi, which are the tubes that carry air to and from the lungs. In up to 95% of cases, acute bronchitis is associated with a viral infection. The cough associated with acute bronchitis usually lasts 7-10 days, but it can last longer. About 50% of patients with acute bronchitis have a cough that lasts up to three weeks, and 25% of patients have a cough that persists for over a month. While antibiotics are often prescribed for patients with acute bronchitis, little evidence shows that these agents provide significant symptomatic relief or shorten the course of the illness. An alternative we recommend is an herbal treatment for acute bronchitis in Kingston WA.

Herbal Care In Kingston WA

A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study examined the efficacy and safety of an herbal extract from the plant Pelargonium sidoides in the treatment of patients with acute bronchitis. The study involved 36 primary care physicians in outpatient care settings. 468 adults with acute bronchitis participated in the study. The outcome measured was a Bronchitis Severity Score. A liquid herbal extract called EPs7630 made from the herb Pelargonium sidoides was administered at a dose of 30 drops three times daily for 7 days. After 7 days of treatment, the Bronchitis Severity Score was found to be decreased more in the herbal treatment group compared to the placebo group. In addition, the duration of illness was significantly shorter for patients treated with EPs7630 compared to placebo. The study concluded that herbal treatment with an extract from the Pelargonium sidoides plant reduced the severity of acute bronchitis symptoms and shortened the duration of working inability.
